Soldier Field Immunization Project

Soldier Field Immunization Project
UIC Medical Center
Private Employee Training

The University of Illinois Chicago's Medical Center will be using this scaled model of Soldier Field to provide training for drive-through immunization. By finding a few photos online and no real-world architectural specifications, we back-engineered a life-like model that sets a perfect backdrop for the training participants.

University of Illinois Chicago Medical Center - CADE

UIC Medical Center
Interactive Crisis Training Facility
Private Employee Training

The University of Illinois Chicago will be using a true-to-scale virtual version of their medical center to train employees what to do, and how to behave during a crisis. Using photography and floor plans of the real facility, we are in the process of building and texturing a virtual version that immerses the trainees in a life-like setting. Virtual training has been used for years in the airline industry and now with the aid of virtual worlds like Second Life, they can be useful for any number of subject specific learning environments.

This project is currently under construction on UIC's private island.

Virtual Mall - Crain's New York Business

Virtual Mall Design
Editorial Artwork
Crain's New York Business Magazine

We were contracted by Leverage Media of New York City, New York to design and construct a virtual mall to be used in the 2007 holiday issue of Crain's New York Business magazine. With just ten real-world business names and a handful of other specs, we designed and hired talent for this virtual world photo shoot. Rumor has it that the businesses will be approached with actually opening a virtual storefront in Second Life.

Spirit Rail Patent Reconstruction and Demonstration Platform

Spirit Technologies
Interactive Demonstration Area
Private Presentations and Public Awareness

The Spirit Rail Technologies Team of Tucson, Arizona, has been a long time client of Sturm Design and it was only natural for us to provide them with the 3D virtual versions of their light rail patents available for private presentations to railroad engineering firms as well as creating public awareness of this awesome new technology by providing links to their website with 3D animations and feasibility studies.

Case Study - Light and Shadow

Case Study
Lighting and Shadows
Metaverse Prime

At present, Second Life's rendering engine does not support real-time shadows and lighting is only visible if someone knows to turn that feature on in their client preferences. We were successful at mimicking real-world lighting and shadows. This is just a small sample of the countless case studies we tried. Note that the lights in the hallway really aren't lights, but an illusion created with just the right mix of contrast and color.

Big Chair Fashion Gallery

Big Chair Fashion Gallery
SD1 Fine Art & Photography Gallery

This wonderful space was short lived but loved none the less! We had a couple fashion shows and fashion photo shoots as well as a few dance parties. I (Allan) was never one to imagine myself attending a dance party in the virtual world of Second Life, but come to find out, it was quite fun. In the future we hope to provide another facility on our island (Metaverse Prime) that will allow clothing, jewelry, and accessories designers a place to show off their work.

Sturm Design

This 4-story commission free art gallery housed artists from nine different countries. A splendid social zone and filled with great works of art, it was recently taken down and put in virtual storage until space for it is realized on the new Metaverse Prime island.
